Tributes have been paid to former Donegal coach John Morrison, who has died.

Morrison was part of Mickey Moran’s backroom team during the 2000-2002 period.

Donegal reached an Ulster final in 2002 and went on to contest an All-Ireland quarter-final that year. A replay loss to Dublin brought an end to their time in Donegal.

Morrison later joined forced with Moran to take Mayo to an All-Ireland final, which they lost to Kerry.

Morrison managed Antrim, while he also had backroom roles with Derry and Leitrim.

A member of the Armagh Harps club, Morrison was known as an innovative and inspirational coach.

Former Donegal start Kevin Cassidy, who played under Morrison tweeted: “Since I first met him in 2002 he has been with me every step of the way since. And my last text message from him was his instructions for me to carry out in the game on Saturday. What a man!! Truly once in a lifetime sort of guy.”

John McConnell, who was the Donegal chairman when Morrison came to the county, described  Morrison on Twitter as: “A coach ahead of his time and who shared his knowledge with everyone.”
