An elderly man has been seriously injured in a housefire in Lettermacaward.

A neighbour spotted the fire and contacted the emergency services in the early hours of this morning.

Gardai managed to get the man out of the house and brought the fire under control.

The man was rushed by ambulance to Letterkenny University Hospital where he is being treated for his injuries.

His condition has been described as serious.

A full investigation has been launched into the cause of the blaze but Gardai say they are not treating the fire as suspicious.
