Funeral details announced for young Donegal man who died in water tragedy

A young man who died after being rescued from Erne Estuary at Ballyshannon will be laid to rest this Thursday.

Aaron Heraty, 24, from Finner, was taken from the water on Sunday following a major rescue operation. He had been spotted by a passer-by after midday.

He was rushed to Sligo University Hospital for emergency treatment and sadly died some time later.

Mr Heraghty’s family have shared details of the funeral, which will take place on Thursday 13th February at St Joseph’s church in Ballyshannon.

The obituary reads: “Beloved son of Patricia, he will be sadly missed by his heartbroken mother and brothers and his extended family and friends.

“May he rest in peace.

“Reposing at this late residence with remains going to St Joseph’s church, The Rock, Ballyshannon, on Thursday for 11am funeral Mass, with burial afterwards in adjoining cemetery.

“House private please. Family flowers only please. Donations in lieu if desired to STOP.”
