McDaid takes over as Swilly boss as McNamee checks out

Experienced player Marty McDaid has taken over as the manager of Swilly Rovers, following the resignation of Tony McNamee.

McDaid has stepped into the void this week and will be in charge for Sunday’s Ulster Senior League game against Cockhill Celtic at Swilly Park.

McNamee succeeded Gerry Crossan at the start of the current season and had aimed to make Swilly competitive.

However, what became a frustrating season for the Ramelton side reached a nadir on Sunday when they failed to field in a Knockalla Caravans Senior Cup game against Letterkenny Rovers.

McNamee informed the club committee of his decision and has cited the lack of commitment from players as one of his reasons for leaving the role. It was McNamee’s second spell at the club as manager.

McDaid – who will be assisted by former Swilly and Omagh Town goalkeeper Mark Duffy – starts with a baptism of fire as Swilly welcome Cockhill Celtic on Sunday.
