Sinn Féin County Councillor, Jack Murray, has confirmed that Inishowen Sinn Féin members will convene on  February 17 to select their local election candidates.

Albert Doherty is, to date, the party’s sole nominee in North Inishowen, while two names will be selected to run in the south of the peninsula.

The selection convention will take place in The Point Inn, Quigley’s Point.

Speaking ahead of the convention, Cllr Murray said: “Nominations are now open for Sinn Féin members in Inishowen to put names forward to contest the local elections.

“I am extremely honoured to have received the backing of the Buncrana Cumann, while Albert Doherty has received the support of all cumainn in the new Carndonagh Electoral Area.

“Further, I am delighted to confirm that Terry Crossan’s name has been put forward by the Sinn Féin cumann in Muff. Likewise, this is being endorsed by all other cumainn in the constituency.

“I have no doubt that Terry will be an excellent addition to the Sinn Féin ticket am I’m looking forward to fighting the campaign alongside him,” he added.

“Terry is a man I’ve known for almost 15 years. Through that time, he’s been a good friend and confidant – and has helped and advised me on countless occasions.

“He’s a passionate gaeilgeoir, a GAA man, a community activist and a person whose lifelong commitment to Irish republicanism is unquestionable.

“Undoubtedly, it’s going to take a huge effort to elect two Sinn Fein councillors in the Buncrana/South Inishowen Electoral area but our members are hungry for this election and well up for the challenge.”
