Pope Francis to appear at Rathmullan Film Festival… on the big screen

There’s always something happening in Rathmullan and the biggest news yet is that The Pope is coming to The seaside village to close the Film Festival on Sunday, February 24. Kind of.

St Joseph’s Church in Rathmullan will be the venue for an exclusive screening of Win Wender’s documentary film, Pope Francis – A Man of His Word.

For the first time, St Joseph’s Church will host 150 moviegoers ad they watch what has been described as ‘a cinematic pulpit for Pope Francis to share his deepest spiritual and moral concerns about the human family and the earth’.

Taken from Wender’s discussions with the Pope, the filmmaker said: “There were 55 questions (to Pope Francis), and not a single one that was rejected.

“Pope Francis answered each and everyone spontaneously and in-depth. There were no restrictions.”

And this is a film festival with a difference – there’s not a cinema in sight.

All the film screenings are taking place in the village restaurants, bars, schools, and churches.

It will be a fitting finale to a fabulous film festival, so make sure you check out the four-day programme and make plans for a great way to spend the mid-term break in Rathmullan.

Meanwhile, Rathmullan Film Fest has opened a pop-up box office today to coincide with Valentine’s 5k Beach Run/Walk in the village.
