Transition and fifth-year students from Loreto Secondary School are set to hold their third annual Model United Nations conference next month.

The conference, based on a recreation of the United Nations, will be held on the 6th and 7th of March at the Mount Errigal Hotel.

Each student taking part will represent their delegations (country or NGO) and meet at the ‘United Nations General Assembly’ to try and solve real-world issues.

A spokesperson for the event said: “After participating in an international Model United Nations conference in Cork, we were inspired to put on our own in order to offer student from our school and students from schools in the area the opportunity to develop the skills we gained.

“We think this is a great opportunity to learn more about the world around us, the issues that affect us and help inform our peers in an interactive way.

“It is a chance for students to learn first hand about diplomacy, international relations and the United Nations.

“The event has doubled in size since last years conference and we hope that it will only expand more and more each year.”
