Listen: Ciaran Thompson and Donegal look to lay down a marker

Ciaran Thompson says back-to-back home games against Fermanagh and Armagh give Donegal a big chance to lay down a promotion marker.

Defeat to Tipperary in their last outing in Thurles ended Donegal’s perfect start to the Division 2 campaign.

Now, Declan Bonner’s team face Fermanagh and Armagh on consecutive weekends.

“I think Division 1 is where Donegal need to be and want to be,” Thompson told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.

“It’s definitely a target of ours.

“We’re due a performance, but getting the two points is the main objective to get back to the peak of the table. We have two home games now to put down a big marker for promotion.”

Thompson is in his fourth year on the Donegal squad, having been first drafted by Rory Gallagher – who manages his native Fermanagh, the visitors to O’Donnell Park on Sunday.

Thompson has forced a spot in Bonner’s XV, but still has to battle to hold onto the shirt.

He said: “You can’t go out to any training with any easy. You always feel the wee tap on the shoulder. It’s up to yourself how you overcome it.”
