Lifford is among the top ten towns at risk of job losses due to automation.

A report, conducted by researchers at University College Cork, shows that two out of every five jobs are at high risk.

Office jobs, administration positions, process plant operators and jobs in agriculture are the most at risk of automation.

UCC researchers analysed at population, education levels, age demographics and the types of jobs available, with the report based on 2016 Census date.

“Our results suggest that the pattern of job risk from automation across Ireland demands policy that is not one size fits all,” Dr Frank Crowley, co-author of the report, said.

The findings of the report will be presented to academics, business people and policymakers at an event at UCC today.

Lifford is ranked at eighth in the list of towns most at risk of automation.
