The Public Participation Network are set to host their second Environmental Showcase event next month in Donegal.

On March 9, like-minded organisations and business will gather to highlight positive climate action being done in the county.

One of the organisers, Inishowen based Trish Murphy, urged community organisations and businesses to ‘Showcase’ their work and projects on the day.

Murphy said: “Come along and tell us what your organisation is doing to create climate action and mitigation in your local area. It’s free to get involved and there will be lots of opportunities to learn what others are doing.”

The showcase will be introduced by Aengus Kennedy from Nature North West and guest speakers will include Davie Philip from Cultivate and Cloughjordan Ecovillage who will introduce the Sustainable Development Goals and shares stories around the room of the sustainability initiatives from Donegal and beyond.

Laura Dixon will talk about her role as Climate Action Officer for Mayo County Council, while Maria O’Connell will talk from Climate Action Regional Office and Frank Kelly from DLDC will give a brief introduction to the Leader fund.

The event will also highlight transition year students at Scoil Mhuire in Buncrana, where the students and their teacher, Denise Dowds an ‘An Taisce Climate Ambassador’, will give a presentation from their ‘Cli-Mates’ project this year and end with a conversation café encouraging further action and collaboration from groups.

This is the second Environmental Showcase run by the PPN but one of many events that are currently happening around the country to highlight Climate Change.

Another organiser, Gortahork based Joanne Butler added: “The previous showcase held in 2017 saw a packed audience and a very productive event for everyone involved.

“We hope this year will be bigger and better.”

The event is opened to the public on the day, and if you are a group or organisation and would like to showcase your positive environmental actions, please get in touch with Mary Clyde on mary.clyde@donegalcoco.ie

The event starts on Saturday 9th March @ 11am-4pm Coláiste Ailigh, Knocknamona.
