Yvonne Bonner aims to build on promising start at Giants

Yvonne Bonner is determined to keep impressing in her maiden AFLW season.

The Glenfin woman has made a fine start to her career with the Greater Western Sydney Giants.

Bonner has hit a goal in each of her four games, including one in last weekend’s win over Collingwood, so far.

“I’m enjoying every game,” Bonner said.

“It’s a short season, so you have to make a quick impact, but I’ve still got a lot to learn.

“I’ve probably been focused more on the ball. You have to get ready for the physical side of things. That will come with experience. I have to bide my time and keep working hard.

Bonner landed a goal-of-the-year contender against Carlton two weeks ago.

It has been some start for Bonner, who signed with the Giants after being picked up at the ‘CrossCoders’ trial in Melbourne.

Bonner and the Giants are still in touch for a preliminary final sport, as they sit just a win behind second-placed Geelong and this weekend they face Melbourne at Blacktown.

Bonner joined Mayo ace Cora Staunton at the Giants and said: “Corawent through it last year. She knows the ins and outs of it now and can really guide me. It’s brilliant having a fellow Irish person.”

Bonner will be back in Donegal for the start of the Ulster Senior Ladies Championship and has been keeping close tabs on results from home, where Donegal’s ladies have been flying with three wins from three in Division 1 so far.
