Listen: Maxi Curran on how Donegal’s ladies have taken even themselves by surprise

Maxi Curran says his Donegal ladies side have exceeded even their own expectations – but warned they have a long way to go yet.

Donegal carved out a slender 3-11 to 3-9 win over Tipperary in Convoy for their fourth Division 1 win of the year.

Karen Guthrie, Róisín Friel and Geraldine McLaughlin hit the goals as Donegal continued their perfect start to the year.

“We didn’t know how the new group would take,” Curran told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.

“You look there of Megan Ryan making a last-ditch block to prevent a certain goal. That was probably the proof that they’re ready.

“We’re sitting pretty at the top of the table. I don’t think anyone would’ve predicted that a few months ago, but we’re still there.

“We didn’t play brilliantly and we won. That was the pleasing thing. If we had won by 15 or 20 points, we’d have learned very little.

“We had to battle and the girls had to grit their teeth.”
