Council sends out gritters as severe ice and snow warning given

Donegal County Council is to send out its fleet of gritters to all primary routes across the county tonight.

The gritters are to treat all routes from 8pm onwards.

It follows heavy falls of snow in Munster, Leinster and in other counties.

Met Eireann has issued an ice and snow warning for overnight and until 9am tomorrow warning.

It is thought that Donegal may escape the worst of the weather but ice is expected tomorrow morning on some routes.

Many sorting fixtures have been cancelled in Munster and Leinster while driving conditions have been described as ‘hazardous’ in parts of Kildare.
