Former Donegal TD loses Fianna Fail contest for European election

Former Donegal TD Niall Blaney has not selected by Fianna Fáil to contest European elections for Midlands North West.

The party have chosen Brendan Smith, TD for Cavan–Monaghan, for the upcoming election to the European Parliament.

Mr Blaney ran along with nine candidates at a convention in the Longford Arms Hotel in Longford Town on Friday.

The next elections to the European Parliament are expected to be held between 23 and 26 May.
