Listen: Declan Bonner’s delight as Donegal find their form in the second half

Declan Bonner saw Donegal stage a big comeback to overturn a five-point half-time deficit and beat Cork by seven points today.

Donegal trailed 1-8 to 0-6 at the break, but an injury-time Jamie Brennan goal sealed a 1-19 to 1-12 win.

“Getting the two points will make the journey home a bit sweeter,” Bonner said.

“We were in control for long spells and should have had a goal early on. The lads showed great character in the second half.”

At the break, there were worrying signs as Donegal were five in arrears and the promotion train was in danger of being derailed.

However, the introduction of Paddy McGrath for his 100th appearance and Daire Ó Baoill – also making a first outing of the year for the county – helped steady the wobbles.

The Donegal manager said: There was a lack of urgency at times, but they really upped it in the second half.

“The likes of Paddy McGrath coming on had a settling influence and Daire Ó Baoill was very good.

“They picked it up in the second half. All in all, we’d be happy with the second half, but we still have a lot of work to do.”

The Donegal manager spoke to Ocean FM’s Paddy McGill after the game. Listen to the full interview below …
