Students from six Donegal schools are set to take part in the national ‘Speak Out Tour’ in Sligo on this afternoon as part of the Young Social Innovators (YSI) programme.

6,000 teenagers have been invited from 28 schools in Donegal, Sligo, Cavan and surrounding counties to The Clayton Hotel, Sligo to set out their aspirations for the kind of Ireland in which they wish to live.

Abbey Vocational School, Loreto Secondary School, Mulroy College, Rosses Community School, Scoil Mhuire Secondary School, St. Columba’s College are six schools across the county that will explore social issues that concern them and come up with a variety of responses to these.

The aim of the event is for Young Social Innovators to build social capital and help other young people create a fairer and more caring Ireland.

Now in its 17th year, YSI seeks to strengthen civic society by giving teenagers a platform to articulate their ideas, insights, passions and expertise.

The regional event will be held later today from 11am – 2pm.
