Spring has come, then gone, then come back again. In ten minutes the weather may change again, but for now, local gardeners are looking ahead to the growing season that 2019 will bring.
Donegal Community Garden Network are delighted to be holding their third Annual Spring Networking Event and Seed Share; a free event hosted by the Twin Towns Community Garden & Men’s Shed on Saturday 30th March from 1-3pm.
This popular event sees the culmination of DCGN’s fantastic Seed Saving Project which began following a successful grant received from Changemakers Donegal, under their “Seeds of Change” initiative.
The aim of the project, launched in partnership with the Irish Seed Savers Association was to educate the 26 (and growing!) Community Gardens mapped across the county, on the importance of growing, sowing and saving strong, healthy seed varieties.
By starting a county-wide Seed Bank, DCGN hope to enable growers and gardeners to raise strong, resilient varieties of vegetables, fruit and flowers, perfectly adapted to our growing conditions and to continue to preserve the legacy of saving seeds handed down by our ancestors for the future and for all budding growers across the county.
As this next Spring comes around, the Donegal Community Garden Network are inviting those who have their interests piqued to this FREE event to find out more, to share or swap some seed and to continue this fantastic project into 2019 and beyond.
