Letterkenny man Eugene Gallagher has been formally co-opted to Donegal County Council today.
Mr Gallagher fills the vacancy left by Independent Cllr Dessie Shiels, who announced his resignation in February.

With just two months to the local elections, Mr Gallagher intends to put his shoulder to the wheel in his new role at county and local level, adding that he has his sights set on returning after May.
Mr Gallagher said: “I intend to carry on as a councillor for as long as I possibly can.”
“I have a hard act to follow in Dessie. What he lacked in participation in this council he more than made up for in his work behind the scenes.
“I’m sure every councillor here has the will of their community and constituency at heart and I’ll be no different than that.”
Mr Gallagher said that he aims to do his best to work in cooperation with the executive and members, but he will also be vigilant to hold the local authority to account.
“If I see something wrong, don’t think I won’t call it out, because I will, that’s my nature,” he said.
Mr Gallagher also paid tribute to the former councillor Dessie Larkin of Letterkenny, who passed away last week.
