Couples dithering over setting their wedding date might have their problems solved – if they win the top prize in a competition run by a luxury Donegal hotel.

The Shandon Hotel & Spa, on Donegal’s Wild Atlantic Way, has set the date for January 30 next with the lucky couple being offered a free wedding up to the value of €7,000 – with a spa day thrown in for good measure.

Now hotel manager Carolynne Harrison is hoping the unique prize will convince couples to just go for it!

“There are loads of different wedding competitions out there and we wanted to do something unique that stood out from the crowd,” said Carolynne.

“We have loads of wedding bookings for 2020 and even 2021 but we wanted to reach out to that couple who are madly in love, want to tie the knot but haven’t gotten around to nailing down a date yet.

“Well one lucky couple – the couple who win the competition – will know pretty quickly when they’re going to have the best day of their lives and of course where, right here at the Shandon Hotel & Spa, overlooking the Atlantic ocean.”

The hotel is also offering lucrative runners-up prizes and €500 off weddings for all couples who enter.

“We recognise getting married is a big step in the lives of any couple,” said Carolynne.

“And while it is a serious commitment, it should be a fun day for the happy couple and we think there are loads and loads of engaged couples out there who really don’t care about the date and would love the opportunity to get married here at the Shandon.”

Couples hoping to win the top prize – which includes dinner and bubbly for 100 guests – will face a ‘Mr & Mrs’ style interview with the Shandon’s wedding organisation team.

“We don’t know what to expect in terms of entrants,” added Carolynne.

“I suppose we’re looking for a fun couple who are so madly in love that they would be happy to just go with our date – January 30, 2020 – and enjoy it all.”

Entry to the competition is by appointment for interview on 0749136137 with a closing date of April 22.
