Residents of Letterkenny estate to hold public protest in Lifford over water outages

A public protest against ongoing water issues will be held on behalf of residents of Gort Na Gréine, Letterkenny in Lifford on Monday.

A spokesperson for the group said that residents of the private estate had suffered severe problems with water access for well over ten years.

Local community activist, Finn O Donnell said it was time water outages in the area were resolved once and for all.

He said: “It’s disgusting plain and simple. We have families going without a basic human right for over a decade and still there is nothing being done.

“The residents are fed up with it and rightly so. I urge everyone who can make it, to come out to Lifford and attend this protest.”

The protest will take place on April 15 outside the Donegal County Council Office in Lifford when the final meeting of councillors before the next election is due to take place on May 24.

A statment released by the Gort Na Greine Residents Association on Saturday said that the residents had been ‘let down’ by the council for over a decade.
”We as residents have been having issues with water in our estate for 10 years,” the statement read. “Time after time we have been let down by the council.
“This is a privately built estate with a mixture of privately owned homes, some council-owned houses.
“All we want is our basic human right to water. We won’t stop now until we receive this.
“We will start with a protest at Monday’s meeting in Lifford and if there is no positive outcome, then we will escalate this to further protests.”
