Listen: Maxi Curran and Donegal relishing the Galway challenge

Maxi Curran says his young Donegal squad are ‘under no illusions’ as they head for Longford to face Galway in Saturday’s Lidl National League Division 1 semi-final (2.15pm).

A much-changed Tir Chonaill has impressed through a testing spring to reach the last four in Division 1.

Donegal lost a number of players from 2018 and will be down Yvonne Bonner for the remainder of the year, as the Glenfin woman has decided to stay in Australia. However, Geraldine McLaughlin is poised to return from injury this weekend.

“We’re under no illusions,” Curran told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.

“We have a young squad developing at this level.”

Donegal lost to Galway and Cork in the League programme, but Curran is hopeful that his side can upset the odds.

He said:  “We feel it’s a challenge that we’re up to – and we’re looking forward to Saturday.

“We played them a couple of weeks ago and were beaten fairly heavily. We felt the score-line didn’t reflect the game. When you get to the semi-finals, you expect to play the top sides – and Galway are a top-three team.”
