Harps’ Ciaran Gallagher set for ‘quite some time’ out with injury

Finn Harps goalkeeper Ciaran Gallagher is set for a lengthy period on the sidelines after sustaining a shoulder injury last night.

Gallagher was forced off in the first half of Harps’ 3-0 loss to Dundalk at Oriel Park.

Following a collision with Pat Hoban, the Dundalk striker, Gallagher had to leave the action to be replaced by Peter Burke.

“Ciaran will be out for quite some time on top of the others that are out,” said Harps boss Ollie Horgan.

“When it rains, it pours. When you’re down, you’re down.

“We’ve lost a player for quite some time over an incident that wasn’t merited.

“We need to get Ciaran a scan and, unfortunately, we won’t be able to get that until after the Bank Holiday. He has a problem with his shoulder.

“It’s not ideal, but we have to move on quickly.”

In Gallagher’s absence, Burke will deputise with Harps back in action against St Patrick’s Athletic in Ballybofey on Monday.

Horgan felt Hoban should have been punished for the challenge as he noted: “For the referee not to issue a yellow card is beyond me.”

Daniel Kelly’s hat-trick gave champions Dundalk a 3-0 win and condemned Harps to their ninth League loss in a row.

Horgan said: “We had great chances to go ahead or to equalise. I can’t fault them. We had a cut of it. We had a go, but when the second goal went in, that was that.

“We got to half-time very much in the game. After the second goal, it was a mountain to climb. It was damaged limitations, even though we kept at it until the end.”
