Arranmore RNLI volunteers have come to the rescue of a fisherman who was injured at sea this morning.

The alarm was raised at 10.30am when a crew member suffered a hand injury onboard a 40ft crabber.

The RNLI lifeboat was swiftly launched from Arranmore Island as volunteers travelled 40 miles north west to meet the trawler.

The fisherman was transferred to the lifeboat at approximately 12noon and is believed to be en route to Burtonport.

Nora Flanagan, spokesperson for the Arranmore RNLI, said that an ambulance is ready to transfer the casualty to Letterkenny University Hospital for treatment.
