Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh’s radio show Bláthnaid Libh on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta is heading to Donegal.

And organisers would like to extend an invitation to the public to join them to walk part of Slí Cholmcille in Gartan on Friday 10 May for the programme.

The walkers will come together in the carpark of Glenveagh National Park at 2 pm on Friday 10 May, where a bus will take them to the start of the walk.

They’ll walk from there to Ráth Cnó, or Churchtown, and on to Leac na Cumha, or Lacknacoo, before arriving at the Colmcille Heritage Centre in Gartan.

Slí Cholmcille, or the Saint Columba Trail, links places in Scotland and Ireland connected to Saint Colmcille, who set sail from Derry in 563 to found his monastery on the Scottish island of Iona. Big celebrations are planned for 2021, to celebrate 1500 years since the saint’s birth.

Historian Brian Lacey will guide the walk, describing the importance of the different stops along the way in the life and history of Saint Colmcille.

Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh and her team will be recording during the walk for the Bláthnaid Libh show, which will be broadcast live from the RnaG Doirí Beaga studios in Gaoth Dobhair on Saturday morning at 10.15 am. All are welcome to join them, and there is a cost of €3 for the bus.
