A learner driver is to appear in court after being arrested for driving under the influence of drugs.
The driver was caught breaking a series of motoring offences in Letterkenny last night.
The learner permit holder was driving without L plates and no accompanying driver. Two passengers were on board, but neither had a full driving licence, as is required by law.
Gardaí with the Roads Policing Unit then carried out a roadside test and it emerged that the driver was under the influence of cannabis. The driver is set to appear in court in the near future.
The incident has sparked a warning from Gardaí ahead of the May Bank Holiday weekend. A spokesperson said: “Please be careful on the roads this May bank holiday weekend and ensure that you do not do anything to put anybody at risk, including yourself! Enjoy the weekend and stay safe!”
