Reigning North West Women’s champions Illies Celtic begin their three-in-a-row quest with a home game against League newcomers Swilly Rovers this Thursday night.

The 2019 North West Women’s Super League kicks off this week with three games down for decision.

And all eyes are again on John Doherty’s Illies, who start at home to the returned Swilly Rovers.

Illies have won the last two titles and the Inishowen team will once again be expected to be among the leading lights.

Illies have added the likes of Zoe Green and Nicole Gordon to their ranks and will be the favourites for the silverware.

Swilly, who were members of the first Super League in 2017, are one of two new clubs this season.

Culdaff – whose number includes Irish underage international Erin McLaughlin – have also joined the ranks for 2019 and they begin with an Inishowen derby at home to Paddy Keys’ Greencastle, who will be backed by players from their WFAI U18 Cup winning side.

Packie McElwaine’s Fanad United had a fine season back in senior football in 2018 and they host Brid McGinty’s Lagan Harps at Traigh-A-Loch.

Bonagee United were in contention until the final weeks of last season. The Dry Arch Park side are free on the season’s opening night and Chris McNulty’s team start their term with an away tie at Swilly on Thursday-week. Bonagee are free on the opening week.
