Major traffic delays after Irish Water works start on dual carriageway

Commuters have reacted angrily after major traffic delays in Letterkenny this morning.

The delays arise after Irish Water started work on the dual carriageway on the outskirts of the Cathedral Town.

The roadworks, a vital part of the improved infrastructure for the town, had been flagged up for some time.

However, Irish Water had claimed that only two of the four lanes of the dual carriageway would close.

But according to motorists today, just one lane is operating at times leading to a major build-up of traffic.

The delay on the dual carriageway had had a major knock-on effect for the town with huge delays in people getting into work.

The delays come just a week before further works are due to commence in the Lower Main Street area of the town, a vital artery for many entering the town from the Glenswilly direction.
