Community spirit is alive and well in Rathmullan with the seaside village raising over €5750 for two worthy causes lately.
The Rathmullan New Year’s Day swim collection resulted in a €4055.14 donation to Lough Swilly RNLI, and Kernan’s Ramelton raised €1,700 through their Community Recycling Initiative for Rathmullan Community First Responders which was used to purchase a defibrillator and cell phones for the group.
RNLI is close to the hearts of many in the seaside village, and since they started operations in 1987, they have launched the lifeboat 750 times, rescued 650 people and saved over 50 lives.

On receiving the cheque in the White Harte, John McCarter said: “A huge thanks for this fantastic effort which is very much appreciated. We love being part of the Rathmullan Community and we never cease to be amazed at the generosity shown to us here.”
On behalf of the swim committee, Liam McLaughlin replied: “The RNLI is a well-deserved recipient of this year’s collection, they’re very close to the hearts of the community and have provided many happy endings over the years.”
The Rathmullan Community First Responders were delighted to receive a donation which has already been put to great use.
They are a fantastic volunteer group who have set up a 24-hour first response service to deal with cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest and choking in the local area.
They respond to calls made to the emergency services and provide assistance at the scene until the professionals arrive.

Rathmullan native Pauric McGarvey and his team at Kernan’s Ramelton were delighted to nominate the group to receive the proceeds raised from the six-week collection of unwanted clothes which were dropped in at the bins outside the store.
Pauric said: “This was our biggest collection to date, and we were only happy to help this great cause in my local community.”
Clare Gallagher from RCFR group said: “We were overwhelmed with the great response and money raised by Pauric and his team which enabled us to purchase an essential defibrillator and cell phones for the group. We can’t thank Kernan’s enough for their support.”
