Donegal artist Laura Buchanan has created a bright and beautiful interpretation of Irish heritage for her new exhibition, launching tonight in Letterkenny.
The Ramelton woman will officially open Shelf Life!, her first solo exhibition, in the Regional Cultural Centre on Thursday 9th May at 7pm.
Inspired by her childhood growing up in a grocery and hardware shop, Laura has tapped into the vintage products and displays of a traditional small-town shop to design a new series of screen prints and textile collages for the mixed-media exhibition.

Many Ramelton people will remember Buchanan’s stores, run by Laura’s great-grandparents from 1907 to the mid-1980s. The stores were a centre-point of the life of the heritage village.
Visiting the exhibition will be a step back in time to explore a bright reimagination of the remnants left behind today, which continue to inspire Laura’s creative process.

Laura is an MA artist whose prints have been exhibited by the RUA, Belfast; Glebe Gallery, Donegal and Indigo Textile Show, New York. Her prints have been purchased by US retail giant Target for their homewares department and she currently works as a designer at McNutt of Donegal.
All are welcome to attend the official opening of Shelf Life! this Thursday at 7pm.
The exhibition runs from 2nd May – 25th May at the Regional Cultural Centre.
