Participants of Darkness into Light in Falcarragh are looking forward to seeing dawn break from the beach as they take on a new route this Saturday morning.

This year’s Darkness into Light walk will take place Friday night into Saturday morning (11th May) at 4.15am across 12 locations in Donegal.

In Falcarragh this year,  participants will be walking the beautiful Falcarragh Beach Back Strand.

Darkness into Light, organised by Pieta and proudly supported by Electric Ireland since 2013, is a global movement dedicated to ending suicide and supporting those who engage in self-harm.

Thousands of people will walk a 5-kilometre route into the light of dawn. The early dawn represents hope and is symbolic of the work of Pieta; bringing people from darkness back into the light.

This year there are 12 locations in Donegal including Falcarragh, Gweedore, Tory Island, Carrick, Maghery, Letterkenny, Donegal Town, Rathmullen, Arranmore Island, Buncrana, Bundoran, Carndonagh with a total of 200 locations worldwide across 19 countries and 5 continents.

In Falcarragh, walkers can park their cars at Pobalscoil Chloich Cheannfhaola (PCC) and get a shuttle bus down to and from the beach. Tea/Coffee/Refreshments will be available after the walk at the Gym at PCC – the buses will be taking the walkers back up from the beach immediately after the walk.

Representatives of DIL Falcarragh will also be in the t-Sean Bhearaic, Falcarragh tomorrow Fri 10th May from 2-4pm if anyone have any questions/queries about the walk or would like some assistance with the registration process.

There is still time to register at https://www.darknessintolight.ie
