Last Thursday, I was giving a talk at the Home Instead senior care day in the Station house Hotel in Letterkenny.
My talk was on the benefits of exercise, eating healthy and staying strong into old age.
Before my talk, I had a stand set up where people could come and ask questions if they needed to.
One lady sat down, and we talked for around 20-30 minutes on everything and anything.
She was Sr Helen Kelly and she is a Nun here in Donegal.
She left me with 4 tips at the end of our chat and I got ready for my talk.
I was asked to give 4 tips at the end of my talk to the audience who were in attendance and I immediately thought of Sister Kelly.
So, I invited her up to give her 4 tips and when she began to speak, she gave more than what I or the audience expected.
You have to remember that both she and I were talking to a room of elderly participants, so her talk would have resonated more with them more than if I had given the same one, due to the age gap.
I can honestly say that it was one of the most inspirational talks I have heard in a very long time, and it had several life lessons in it, which I am going to share with you now.
- Stop focusing on the negative things.
There are probably more positive things happening in your life right now than there are negative ones.
Sitting around moping about everything that isn’t happening or everything that isn’t going right, takes away from all the good things that are happening.
We all have choices when we wake up in the morning, we can choose to make sure we do everything possible to have a good day, or we can wake up and begin to complain about all the same things we were complaining about yesterday.
Choose to wake up and live a positive life.
- What have you done this year so far?
We are in day 130 of 2019.
What kind of a life have you lived this year?
Has it been a positive one, or has it been a negative one?
Can you look back on the 1st 130 days of 2019 and be happy that you have lived it the way that you really wanted to, or do you look back and feel unsatisfied with how things have gone?
If so, why were you unsatisfied and why didn’t you do anything to try to change how things were going?
Or, did you just trudge along and accept things as being ‘always negative’?
- What will your next 130 days look like?
When we get to day 260 of 2019 on Tuesday the 17th of September, what will you tell yourself?
When you look back at those 130 days, will you be looking at exactly the same 130 days that you started the year with, or will you be looking at a completely new and positive set of days?
After all, if you want a change to happen in your life, you must be willing to change some things in your life.
So, that is the challenge for you for the next 130 days of your life.
Will you continue to focus on the negative things in your life and complain that there is nothing good that happens?
Will you start to change your outlook on life and begin to mould your next 130 days into positive ones that you will be proud and happy to look back on come September 17th?
The choice is yours
