Donegal’s Karol Doherty has achieved another victory as the first wheelchair athlete home in the Strabane Lifford Half Marathon.
Crowds of people came out on Sunday the 12th of May to support the Strabane Lifford Half Marathon that saw many great athletes compete to get to the finish line. The race started at 9.30am at Meetinghouse Street in Raphoe and the finish line was at Melvin Running Track. It was the sixth year for the marathon which is a cross border/ cross-community event.
There were running athletes and wheelchair athletes that all took part to get to that finish line in good time. The half-marathon was 13.1 miles long and the event saw many male and female athletes finishing the race at a good pace.
Top male and female winners finished the race within an hour and a half or less.
Martin Gallagher from Foyle Valley was the first man back at a time of 1:15:49 and the first woman back was Claire McGuigan Lifford Strabane at a time of 1:18:33.
Cardonagh athlete Karol Doherty came first out of the wheelchair athletes at a time of 1:08:51.
It was a great day for the event in which many people enjoyed.
