Could you do a Ramadan fast in aid of Letterkenny Food Bank?

The Letterkenny Islamic Association is encouraging volunteers to join their third annual charity fast this weekend.

The community has raised €2,350 for the We Care LK Food Bank in recent years. This year, they are hoping to raise even more in support of local families.

Muslims all over the world are currently fasting for Ramadan every day this month.

The charity challenge this Saturday 25th May invites non-Muslims to do the fast for just one day.

According to the Letterkenny Islamic Association, it’s easier than you think!

A spokesperson said: “We’re currently in the month of Ramadan where Muslims who are physically able are required to fast from daybreak to sunset every day for a month.  This means no food or water during these hours.  But it’s not as hard as you think!

“We’re encouraging our non-Muslim friends and neighbours to get involved again this year and take the Third Annual Charity Fasting Challenge!  If you think you won’t be able to do it, think again!  People who took part over the last two years told us it wasn’t as hard as they thought it would be.  Of course it was a challenge but they did just fine.”

All money raised from the sponsored fast will be given to the We Care LK Food Bank.

If you want to fast according to the exact times Muslims in Letterkenny will fast, it’ll be from 3:12 am to 9:50 pm. Volunteers can choose to do all or part of the fast. There are certain restrictions on who can fast due to medical reasons, so please read the guide carefully before considering taking part.

At the end of the fast, everyone is welcome to join a ‘breakfast’ with ethnic food at the Letterkenny Community Centre on Saturday the 25th of May at 9pm. Registration is required ahead of this meal via https://islaminletterkenny.com/2019/05/16/third-annual-fasting-challenge-support-your-local-food-bank/

Would you like to part or donate to We Care LK? A downloadable sponsorship form is available from this page: https://islaminletterkenny.com/2019/05/16/third-annual-fasting-challenge-support-your-local-food-bank/
