Four talented students from Donegal have won top awards in this year’s 65th Texaco Children’s Art Competition.

The Texaco Children’s Art Competition is a platform for young artists to have their talents recognised. Over the years it has been a springboard on which many have risen to national prominence.

Four young ‘Picassos’ from Donegal picked up Special Merit Awards at a ceremony in Enfield recently. They are:

  • Jack Mitchell (aged 8), from Scoil An Linbh Íosa, Donegal Town
  • Mia McCalmont (17), from Abbey Vocational School, Donegal Town
  • Sarah Gustafsson (15), from Royal And Prior Comprehensive School, Raphoe
  • Aisling Amponsah (14), from Loreto Secondary School, Letterkenny

Jack Mitchell (8) with Chairman of the judging panel, Professor Gary Granville and James Twohig, Director Ireland Operations at Valero.

Aside from giving students the space to give expression to their talent and skill, the Texaco Children’s Art Competition has focused a spotlight on the quality of art teaching in Irish schools and the importance that the educational establishment attaches to the subject of art education.
