Fianna Fáil Councillor Enda Bonner has lost his seat after the sixth count in the Glenties LEA.

As no candidate reached the quota on the sixth count, Bonner’s 1,056 votes will now be redistributed.

During the last Local Elections in 2014, Bonner secured his seat on the tenth count achieving 1,669 votes.

Bonner was added to the party ticket earlier this year after appealing the party’s convention vote to nominate Noreen McGarvey to run for the local elections. McGarvey is still in the running for a seat, with 1,171 votes to her name after the sixth count.

Two other Fianna Fáil politicians are polling well in the Glenties LEA, with current Councillor Seamus O’Domhnaill and former Donegal GAA caption Anthony Molloy securing 1161 and 1400 votes respectively.

So far in the Glenties LEA, Independent Councillor Micheál Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig is the only candidate to have secured a seat, having sailed over the quota of 1,875 on the first count with 2,007 first preferences.

Sinn Féin’s John Sheamuis Ó Fearraigh could retain his seat on the next count, needing only a further 125 redistributed votes to retain his seat.

Here are the figures after the sixth count:

Brian Carr (SF) +223 … 1211
Marie Theresa Gallagher (SF) +38 … 1324
Michael Mc Clafferty (Fine Gael) +127 … 1343
Noreen McGarvey (FF) +16 … 1171
Anthony Molloy (FF) +401 … 1400
Seamus O’Domhnaill (FF) +8 … 1161
John Sheamuis Ó Fearraigh (SF) +10 … 1750

Quota: 1,875, Electorate: 23,165, Turnout: 12,851, Spoiled: 147, Valid: 12,704
