Jimmy Kavanagh has successfully retained his seat in the Letterkenny Electoral Area.

Kavanagh is the second to be re-elected in the area with 1,701 of the votes.

He will once again be the only Fine Gael candidate at the table in Letterkenny EA, after first-time hopeful Bernie Moran lost out in the sixth count. Moran’s distribution gave her party colleague more than 300 votes to make the quota.

Kavanagh was confident from early on in the count, telling Donegal Daily: “I’m delighted for my family and friends, I have a close-knit team who worked really hard.”

A family and community man, Kavanagh was fortunate to have gained a surprise extra vote on Friday when his daughter Leah travelled home from San Francisco to show her support. Leah was also there, along with her mum Roisin and sister Michelle, to celebrate Jimmy’s victory today.
