McBrearty and Doherty elected to keep the status quo in Finn Valley

The election of both Frank McBrearty and Liam Doherty on the 8th count has kept the status quo in the Lifford/Stranorlar electoral area.

Doherty and McBrearty join poll-topper Martin Harley, Patrick McGowan, Gary Doherty and Gerry Crawford in this six-seater.

It’s the first electoral area to finish voting in Co Donegal today.

The voting means that the party break-down in the Finn Valley area will be two Sinn Fein seats, two Fianna Fail seats and two Fine Gael seats.

Newcomer Garvan Connolly looked like he could have taken a seat for Fine Gael up until the 8th count.

He polled 1,041 votes behind Liam Doherty on 1,195.
