Maxi Curran insists that Donegal will have to drawn upon all of their experience as their Ulster Ladies SFC title goes on the line on Saturday.
In the curtain-raiser to the men’s semi-final between the same counties at Breffni Park, the Donegal ladies meet Tyrone in their Ulster opener.
Donegal have won back-to-back Ulster crowns and last year reached the All-Ireland semi-finals, but the 2019 version is much-changed.
“For the League semi-final against Galway, of the 26, eleven were 18 or younger,” Curran told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.
“That’s a lot of inexperience so we have to draw on all the experience we have.
“It’s going to be a far bigger challenge than people realise.
“Ulster has only had three or four teams up to now, when there’s five. We got the preliminary round so would have to play three games in three weeks if we want to go all the way.
“Tyrone will come with a serious bang. They have been on the road and have played at Croke Park. They have garnered experience.”
Tyrone won the All-Ireland intermediate title last year and Curran is hoping a big Donegal crowd gets to Breffni Park early.
He said: “This is a brilliant occasion for ladies football. It’s a great lift for the ladies game and puts them in a shop window, but that’s completely irrelevant because we have a job to do.”
