DONEGAL FULL-BACK Neil McGee says he has been re-energised by the young players breaking through to Declan Bonner’s squad.
McGee holds the all-time record for Donegal appearances and is gunning for a fifth Ulster medal this Sunday. He says Donegal have a new lease of life since Bonner brought a new attacking blueprint to the table.
“Since Declan came in, the first thing he wanted was that we attack better,” McGee, who missed last year’s final win over Fermanagh through a suspension, told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.
“We fell into being a defensive team and were branded as a defensive team. We’ve been working on how we attack and how we defend overall the last couple of years. Everything we do, we want a score at the end of it.
“The young boys have been brilliant. Football is their life and they live their lives around playing for Donegal. They’re a credit. It’s a tight group and we’re all on the one wavelength. That’s a benefit of a small group of players. It’s a great place to be.”
A devastating first-half performance saw Donegal blow Tyrone away in the semi-final two weeks ago.
McGee said: “Tyrone had the edge on us the past couple of years. It felt in training the last couple of weeks that there was a great edge. I was very confident waking up that morning that we’d get one over them. You get these wee indicators at training and everything was falling into place. We had a good two weeks coming up to that.”
