June 21, 2019

A 21-year-old man charged with dangerous driving causing deaths following a Bundoran car crash last August has remanded on continuing bail at Ballyshannon District Court.

Joseph Gilroy was charged with dangerous driving causing the deaths of Shiva Devine and Conall McAleer on 19th August 2018 at Eastend, Bundoran. He was also charged with causing serious bodily harm to another crash victim, Rachel Elliott.

Elliott was in the court on Friday.

Gilroy, from Lisnaskea, Co Fermanagh,  is also charged with driving with no licence, no insurance, failing to report a hit and run, and other offences.

During proceedings in Ballyshannon District Court, Tom MacSharry, defence solicitor, told the court the Book of Evidence was not yet ready.

McSharry said there were summary matters before the court.

They were adjourned to July 19th.

A defence application for legal aid for the defendant’s appearance in the district court was denied but Judge Kevin Kilrane said he would grant legal aid for circuit court.
