A BALLYBOFEY woman told Gardaí ‘you are all c**** and deserve to die’ during an altercation with Gardaí.

On May 7, 2017, Gardaí were dealing with a matter on Navenny Street, Ballybofey, when Edel Dowd (24), of 137 Donegal Road, Ballybofey, appeared on the scene.

“She became highly abusive,” Sergeant Jim Collins told Letterkenny District Court. “She was highly intoxicated, falling around the street and unsteady on her feet.

“Her sister intervened and tried to bring her home, but she continued to be abusive.

“She told Gardaí, ‘you are all c**** and deserve to die’, before falling and refusing to give up.”

Dowd was also before the court charged with theft of a bottle of vodka worth €35 from Lidl in Ballybofey on May 3, 2017.

Dowd made an admission in a subsequent interview with Gardaí. The stolen property was not returned.

Solicitor for Dowd, Patsy Gallagher, said his client had a ‘serious issue with alcohol and non-prescriptive drugs’.

Mr Gallagher said: “She took solace from the wrong people, but she is on the straight and narrow now.

“She was completely ossified on the night and it was down to pure alcohol consumption.”

Judge Paul Kelly applied the probation act in relation to the theft. For the section six offence, Judge Kelly imposed a fine of €100, giving Dowd four months to pay.
