Motorists are being advised to be extra vigilant for cyclists this Wednesday due to an expected rise in adults and children cycling on the roads.
The Green Schools National Cycle will take place on Wednesday the 26th of June as part of Bike Week 2019.
Everyone is to be made aware when on the road that morning that there may be children travelling to school by bicycle and to be cautious.
Cycling is a common means of transport and it is becoming increasingly popular. Cyclists are very vulnerable on our roads.
Every year there are several cycling fatalities on Irish roads and countless collisions involving cyclists.
Motorists need to be aware of cyclists and allow them adequate room on the road. Never drive too closely behind a cyclist and ensure that when you do overtake that you signal that you are going to do so and overtake at a safe distance from them.
Always keep in mind that there could be a cyclist around the next bend and so mind your speed and be alert.
There are numerous organised cycles taking place that week in County Donegal and all information can be found on the website www.bikeweek.ie.
