Agony for McShane with U18 quarter-final loss

THERE WAS no joy for Paddy McShane in the National Under-18 Championships on Friday night.

The Letterkenny puncher lost out to Crumlin’s Karl Sheridan in a 49kgs quarter-final.

When the verdict was taken, Sheridan was the 3-2 split decision winner and it was agony for McShane, who chased his fifth national title.

McShane, a four-time Irish champ, entered in high hopes following an impressive win for a Donegal selection in Boston recently, but Sheridan took the spoils.

Raphoe’s Leah Gallen is in finals action this Saturday as she faces Mary Enright of Setanta BC in the women’s welterweight final.
