A man who told Gardai to “fu** off” after a picture had been damaged in a Letterkenny pub has been ordered to pay €100 to charity.

Mark Reilly, from Westport in Mayo, was in Donegal for the recent Donegal International Rally on June 22nd.

Gardai received a call and when they arrived at McCafferty’s Bar at Lower Main Street, they met Reilly.

He was drunk, unable to stand up and proceeded to abuse Gardai by telling them to “f*** off.”

The 33-year-old was arrested and charged under the Public Order Act.

His solicitor, Mr Patsy Gallagher, said his client should have known better and is embarrassed by what happened but has no recollection of what happened.

Judge Paul Kelly added that he also can’t hold his drink.

His friends later paid for the damage to the picture, Letterkenny District Court was told.

Judge Kelly said that if Reilly paid €100 to the Letterkenny Youth and Community Development fund he would strike the matter out.
