Plans to narrow the Shore Road and introduce a one-way system on Killybegs Main Street have been abandoned, it has been reported.
The news comes following strong opposition to the changes, with over 100 submissions made to Donegal County Council since the proposal.
It is understood that new proposals, including a car park with only one entry and exit point, will go before Donegal County Councillors before being submitted for funding.
A spokesperson for the Killybegs Community Council said: “After a public meeting hosted by Killybegs Community Council, over 100 submissions were made to Donegal County Council regarding the development plan for the Diamond Area in Killybegs.
“Thanks to these submissions, local councillors heard the strong objections to reducing the width of the Shore Road and to introducing a one-way system from the Main Street to the Shore Road.
“It is reported that these changes have now been abandoned. The amended plan will go before all Donegal County Councillors,” the spokesperson added.
“This plan is not available for the public to view so any other changes which may or may not have been made cannot be identified by local stakeholders before it goes before the entire Council.
“It is positive news that the voices of the local people are beginning to be heard.”
