The inclement weather didn’t deter the stalwart fans who turned out to The Mountcharles Opera Festival on Friday to hear some wonderful music performed by Deborah Cunningham, Paul Martin, Evan McGarrigle and The Bluestack Chorale.
The first half brought the audience on a journey that went from the warm Italian countryside to swing-time America stopping off for The Pearl Fishers Duet and Hansel & Gretel’s evening prayer along the way.
Drama is always on the bill when Deborah, Paul and Evan take the stage and there was certainly plenty this year as they sang through the Angels and Demons themed second half, ending with the powerful finale from Gounod’s Faust.
For the hardy souls who might want to venture into the gardens before the show, there were lots of umbrellas on hand, or for some, they preferred to take their seat and enjoy their glass of wine in the garden rooms before the performance. Either way, it was definitely an evening not to be missed.
