A man has been found not guilty of sexually assaulting a woman after a house party.

The two day trial of the man took place at Letterkenny Circuit Court this week.

The woman alleged that the accused man ended up in her rented home with other friends after a house party.

She claimed she woke in her bed to find the man completely naked with his hand inside her underwear.

She also claimed that he had put her hand onto his penis.

The man, who cannot be named, claimed he was wearing underwear but was so drunk he did not remember what happened.

The woman said she jumped out of bed and called her friend who later called around and took the man out of the house.

The woman said she went to work the next day but felt confused and upset and had to go to the bathroom to vomit.

She later contacted Gardai and the man was arrested and questioned about the allegations.

The man, who was accompanied to court by his family, consistently denied the allegations.

After deliberating for over two hours the jury returned with a not guilty verdict.
