A warning has been issued over a motorway scam which saw a couple lost nearly €500.
According to the Irish Mirror, The couple from Strabane, Co Tyrone were returning from a trip to Europe when they came across two men who were “stranded on the motorway”.
The distressed men explained to the couple they were also from Northern Ireland and needed money to get the boat home.
After handing over almost €500 to the pair, the couple exchanged contact details and the men agreed they would repay the money when they got home.
To date the generous couple haven’t received any money and the address they were provided with was bogus.
Highlighting the case, Scamwise NI said: “Although this couple were full of good intentions; we would advise taking extra care when approached by strangers.”
