A Glenties man was yesterday ordained into the priesthood in a moving ceremony at St Eunan’s Cathedral in Letterkenny.

Fr Anthony Briody will now join his brother Fr Joseph Briody into the priesthood.

Fr Joseph is currently teaching in Boston.

Many of Fr Anthony’s family and friends were in the congregation for his ordination which was celebrated by the Bishop of Raphoe, Alan McGuckian.

Indeed this was Bishop McGuckian’s first ordination of a priest within the diocese.

Among those in the congregation was Fr Anthony’s sister Mary, as well as his other brothers Martin and John.

His mother Sylvia passed away in 2012 and his father is former Garda Sergeant Liam Briody who was also present.

There was a huge welcome back in Fr Anthony’s hometown of Glenties last night to celebrate his ordination.

Fr Anthony will celebrate his first mass in St Conal’s Church in Glenties tonight at 7pm.
