The Main Street and Port Road of Letterkenny are set to be buzzing with a carnival atmosphere this weekend for the Letterkenny Folk Festival.

Many will remember international dancers taking over the street for lively performances during festivals in years gone by.

This year will be no different as the town marks the 50th anniversary of the original event from Thursday evening, August 22nd, through to Sunday 25th.

A gig rig will be set up on the street and areas such as Donegal County Library, Market Square, the Post Office, the Old Courthouse, and An Grianan Theatre will host cultural events.

To accommodate the festivities, traffic will be diverted from the Main Street and Port Road at various times.

Friday 23rd August

On Friday 23rd August, Upper Main Street Letterkenny will be closed to traffic from Justice Walsh Road (Old Courthouse) to junction of Oliver Plunkett Road (County Library). The section will be closed from 6.30pm – 12 Midnight Friday.

Vehicles approaching Main street from Station Roundabout will be diverted via High Road, Justice Walsh Road or Speers Lane.
